My Purpose

Looking for someone to help you make your dream wedding come true? Want to be married, renew your vows, or elope in the High Country of Summit County, Colorado? My name is Stephen Gerard and I have been performing weddings for over 35 years. I retired to the beautiful mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado, in 2015 after serving as a judge in Iowa City for over 30 years. During that time, I performed thousands of wedding ceremonies and was one of the first judges in the country to perform same sex marriages. I’ve officiated weddings in many different venues: indoors, outdoors, on horseback, boats; you name it, I’ve done it! From intimate ceremonies for two to large venues for over a hundred guests. I have been performing weddings in Summit County since relocating here. Let me help you choose your perfect location. I will send you sample ceremony forms and help you write the individualized vows that will be unique for your special day. I am happy to offer any advice and accommodate any special ceremonies or requests you may have.

What I Do

I perform wedding ceremonies. More than just a wedding officiant, working with you I will provide advice, sample ceremonies, and readings as well as make referrals at your request to wedding venues and resources. When you arrive, I will meet with you and can go on site visits if you need help finding that perfect location. Arriving early on your wedding day, I review your ceremony with you and coordinate with your photographer, DJ and wedding planner. After the ceremony we will sign and I will file your marriage license. We plan everything in advance so your big day goes smoothly. Short notice? last minute requests are no problem. We can make it happen.

About me

I am admitted to the Colorado and Iowa Bars and live in Breckenridge with my wife and daughter. After beginning my career in the US Air Force JAG, I spent most of my career as a judge, and I have been a part of the legal system for over 40 years. As a judge, performing weddings was one of the things I did that made everyone happy. Now retired from the bench, officiating weddings allows me to continue to participate in those happy events.
